Tarot Cards & Oracle Decks

If we choose to believe that there are many questions to life,
we must also believe that the answers to these questions reside within us.

Each and every being has the capacity to quiet the mind,
enter the silence, and Know.

I believe that the Tarot and Oracle cards allow us this journey
if we but access their mysteries, and our own.

My Favorite Tarot Decks!

These 3 sets are what I carried in my store/store in New Mexico
and have proven to be Best-Sellers year after year.
Rider Waite, MotherPeace, and The Medicine Cards.
Of course I also have consulted other Oracle decks as well, which I will include here.

For more information and books on the Tarot please visit the
Tao of Tarot

There are many ways to consecrate or bless a new deck--
I always Smudge new decks with cedar and sage-sweetgrass and copal.
I love blessing them next to rivers, streams and oceans.

The Sacred Path Workbook :
New Teachings and Tools to Illuminate Your Personal Journey
by Jamie Sams

A must have workbook to compliment your 'Sacred Path' cards.

Totems :
The Transformative Power of Your Personal Animal Totem
by Brad Steiger

Animals are significant throughout history.
The zodiac links human traits to fish (Pisces), bulls (Taurus), crabs (Cancer),
lions (Leo), scorpions (Scorpio), and goats (Capricorn).
Egyptians worshipped Bask and Sekhmet, the Cat-Mother goddesses,
while South American tribes revered the leopard or panther,
and animals represent all twelve years in the Chinese zodiac.

You do not pick your guides,
but if you watch the animals that cross your path
you will see the guide and can learn the messages they bring to you.
Once you train yourself to not just see a cricket or a bee, but to see the messenger,
then you discover the message.
Butterflies land on me when I am going through changes, or should be.
When I see hawks, I should pay greater attention to my dreams.

This book includes some details on relaxation and meditation;
some numerology; some information about the Medicine Wheel
, but none is as in-depth as the information about totems.

In Totems, Brad Steiger doesn't dwell on any single tradition,
but acknowledges the significant roles that animals play in many cultures
in order to advise you about the best way your totem animal may be of assistance.
Drawing on the idea that humankind is inextricably connected with nature,
Steiger reveals how we can call on the resources of the animal kingdom to guide and aid us
through troubled times as well as through the trials of everyday life.

Animal-Speak:
The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small
by Ted Andrews

Ted Andrews's bestselling Animal Speak shows readers how to identify
his or her animal totem and learn how to invoke its energy and use it for personal growth and inner discovery.

Nature lovers will love this insightful compendium,
chock-full of touching stories about animals, natural history, and animal folklore.

Readers will also learn magical animal rites and how to read omens.

Animal Speak includes a dictionary of bird, animal, reptile, and insect totems,
which describe each creature's meaning.
For example, if a person's totem is dragonfly,
he or she was most likely excessively emotional and passionate in early years,
learning with age to balance it with mental clarity and control.
If a dragonfly suddenly shows up in your life,
it means you may need to gain a new perspective or make a change.

The MotherPeace Cards

I might want to add that this deck is not just for women ,
it can be an incredible archetypal tool for men as well.
I haven't ever had a problem with this deck
and have found it to be quite useful-especially on vision quests and tantric journeys.
And exploring my feminine and seeking more understanding of the Sacred Feminine.
I view this deck as the Supreme Matriarchal Deck and the Rider -Waite would be the Supreme Patriarchal deck.
In the quest for achieving balance-I seem to now, gravitate to decks that honor both aspects-Male & Female,
not separating one another--they all have their own energies and resonance.

Rider-Waite Tarot Decks

The Rider-Waite decks are the very best for beginners..
this deck was my first deck-introducing me to Tarot
and jettisoning my interest into the Oracle decks.
-LionHeart -

In 1909, Arthur Edward Waite encouraged Pamela Colman Smith to produce a tarot deck
with appeal to the world of art that would have significance behind the symbols,
and thus make the deck more important than tarot packs previously used for centuries.
The result was the unique Rider-Waite Tarot deck which has endured as the world's most popular 78-card tarot deck.

The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack
by A.E. Waite

The innovative cards, including the 56 Minor Arcana,
depict full scenes with figures and symbols.

This featured, combined with Pamela Smith's ability to capture
the subtleties of emotion and experience,
has made the Rider-Waite Tarot the basis for the designs of many 20th Century packs.

The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack is a facsimile edition
originally printed from palates that were destroyed during the bombing of London during World War II.

The deck and book set comes complete and in full-color with original Tudor Rose back design,
Celtic Cross divinatory chart, and The Key to the Tarot by Arthur Waite.

Giant Rider-Waite Tarot Deck: Complete 78-Card Deck
by Pamela Colman Smith, Arthur Edward Waite

Druid Animal
Thoth Deck
Book of Thoth

Druid Animal Oracle
Highly Recommended!
The Druid Animal Oracle was wonderful esthetically & spiritually.
A Chiste Agus a Stór!
Just beautiful.

Another nice thing that Phillip & Stephanie Carr-Gomm do for the readers,
is to put the names of the animals neatly in a guide that gives the Gaelic name & the Modern English name side by side.
I would highly recommend this book & card set for yourself or for a precious gift for another.Moran Taing! Slán
This deck also comes with a beautiful piece of satin with Celtic designs for your layout field .

Aleister Crowley Thoth Deck
(For serious Tarot readers and folks interested in High Magick)

This tarot deck is somewhat different from other decks.
The artwork is quite beautiful;
many cards have pastel themes and then brighter areas of blue, orange, or green.
Frequently, the coloration of a card provides a quick cue as to the card's meaning
(for example, the Tower is ominously orange and black, and the Sun is a warm yellow).
Particularly in the case of the Major Arcana cards, the interpretation is evident by just looking at the artwork.

There is a distinctively Egyptian look to the cards,
and a great deal of animal imagery (particularly snakes) as well as some floral imagery.

Some of the traditional names of cards in the Major Arcana have been changed
(Justice becomes Adjustment, Strength becomes Lust, etc.).
Some of these changes are more appropriate than others,
but that is my own reaction and what is important is that you choose a deck that's right for you.

Another thing to consider when thinking about buying this deck
is your level of knowledge about the tarot and the occult in general.
There is a lot of symbolism in this deck;
each Major Arcana card also includes the Hebrew letter
and the astrological symbol that are connected with the card.
This is of little help to the beginner but can be quite useful for the advanced user.

I would recommend this deck,
particularly for advanced users of the tarot or for people
with a wider interest in other areas of the occult
(such as astrology or the Qabalah).
However, I would advise beginners to choose a more traditional deck.
This deck if studied seriously will put you through many changes.

The Book Of Thoth
The Companion book for the Thoth Deck-actually a serious study in High Magic!

The work for anybody new to this genere, was done by the eccentric,
English, self aggrandizing 'Beast'- Aleister Crowley (1875-1947).

This was originally to take about 5 months.
At that time 2 Masterpeices of Crowley's came out The Equinox of The God's,
a more in dept commentary to the Book of the Law and The Sublime Eight Lectures on Yoga.

The project with his help of of Lady Frieda Harris took about 5 year's.
The imagery of the deck itself has beautiful imagery that far surpassess any other known Tarot Deck.
However for a beginner, it would be wise to have a Collegiate Dictionary and some knowledge of the occult.

Voyager kit
Osho Deck

Voyager Tarot Kit
By James Wanless
Highly Recommended!

Beautiful, modern, artistic, creative interpretation of the tarot.
The artwork is bright, vivid and magnificent.
Lots of symbolism incorporated into each card.
I love the cultural diveristy reflected in these cards.

The Family cards, with realistic representations of the Court Cards
(ex. man or woman instead of king and queen) is such a wonderful idea.
I really connect to these cards.
Very highly recommend for anyone interested in Tarot from beginner to professional reader.

These come in a hard, shiny box that slides open and has the cards and a 98 page manual
that is a great condensed version of the tarot in a nutshell.

The minor arcana are cups and wands(as usual), then worlds and crystals for the other arcana.
The artwork on the cards is made up of complex photo collages.
The backs look like a kaliedoscope view that ends at the circumference with a 10 pointed star.
I know these are becoming collector's items and have already gone up in value.
Not for beginners..try the Rider-Waite first.-LionHeart-

The Osho Zen Tarot Deck
The illustration in each card of this tarot deck is so expressive and well made that for the most of the time,
all you need to do is to pick a card and pay close attention to its drawings.

The stories are from different paths (Sufism, Islam, Hinduism, Christiantity, etc.),
and each corresponds to one of the 60 cards ...
except when the cards double up on a story to impress an opposite meaning.

Not enough, the book that comes with it has great words of wisdom,
and it gives you a great experience in interpretating each card.

The set comes in a plastic box with the correct place for the cards and book.
It looks pretty much like a VHS case with the cards and book organized inside.
Also, the cards were made out of good material that make them last.
A must have for those who want to get in touch with your 'real or Higher self'.

Osho Transformation Tarot
'Insights and Parables for Renewal in Everday Life'
Highly Recommended

This deck is named for a man who loved to tell such parables to his followers,
the Bagwaan Shri Ragneesh , a favored Tantric teacher of mine..(Pre-Oregon daze-of course!)

The cards measure 5.25" x 3.25",
and are bordered with a grey pattern on the picture side.
The backs feature an orange circle painting that is also shown on the box.
The artwork is amazingly colorful and, while I've seen decks that are visually more appealing to me
I will say that the drawings are very skillfully rendered and fairly often get across the point of the story.
The cards are covered with a semi-glossy and not terribly slick coating.

This deck is probably one of the best divinatory systems I've ever had.
The book is gripping, so as to not force memorization of the cards as much as to make reading them intuitive.

I saved the Best for Last!
Highly Recommended!

The Secret Dakini Oracle Tarot Deck
by Nik Douglas and Penny Slinger.

A wonderful deck full of ancient symbolism and galactic imagery.
Be sure to buy the book with the deck.
It is unique and awesome!
Not frivolous or in la-la land.
A totally cool tool for a study in Tantra and Tantric symbolism.
-LionHeart-

• Contains 22 Major Arcana, 40 Minor Arcana representing the four elements,
and three additional cards invoking Past, Present, and Future • Cards are full-color collages by Penny Slinger

The Tantric Dakini Oracle is a system of divination based on the authors' work
in the Ranipur Jharial Temple of Orissa, India.
The temple contains stone carvings of 64 Dakinis,
ancient symbolic representations of the female principles of intuitive wisdom.
The Dakinis are the guardians of the deeper mysteries of the self,
and it is through them that the secrets of inner transformation are opened.

Nik Douglas, a scholar of both Sanskrit and Tibetan,
has drawn upon his extensive knowledge of Tantric mystical teachings
to create a modern synthesis of their system of divination.

The 65 cards in the deck are a collage of surrealistic images representing symbols and archetypes
that are designed to affect both conscious and subconscious levels of perception.

Created by artist Penny Slinger,
the cards are a mirroring device that evokes subtle memories, sentiments, desires, or fears.
Mediation on the images of The Tantric Dakini Oracle puts the reader in contact with the energies of the Dakinis,
opening a path to one's inner world and enhancing the user's faculties of clairvoyance and visualization.

The oracle also uses two layouts to release individual psychic power-
the Tree of Life and The Great Universe Map.
The Tree of Life
depicts the chakra centers of the yoga body
to engage the kundalini energies of the individual diviner.
The Great Universe Map
explores the astrological influences upon individuals and situations."
