Flashing
on the Sixties
by Lisa Law
"The Sixties were a time
of personal journeys, fiery protests, and revolutionary happenings...an
extraordinary era.
Through it all, photographer Lisa Law was snapping pictures of now-legendary
friends, concerts, and gatherings.
A remarkable visual record that captures the essence and energy of
the Sixties as no other book.
Newly reprinted with additional photographs, commentary and reminiscences
from those there. "
Over the past four decades her still, movie
and video images have chronicled the social and cultural changes in
America,
from her film documentary of that vibrant '60s, to her moving contemporary
still photographs
of the indigenous people of North, South, and Central America as they
struggle for sovereignty and survival.
Flashing On The Sixties won 4 major
awards at film festivals upon it's release
and it has been enjoyed by millions of viewers on Cinemax and The
Discovery Channel from 1991 to 1994.
Now you can buy it here at 60s & Further on DVD.
Actor-director Dennis Hopper described Flashing On The Sixties as
"the most compelling, moving documentary of the Sixties".
Lisa's book, of the same title, is now in its 4th edition, published
by Square Books.
The book is a unique pictorial record of the Sixties,
reflecting Lisa's indefatigable search for memorable human images.
Her film documentation of "Woodstock" has been
used in more than fifteen news and documentary presentations
honoring the twenty-fifth and thirtieth anniversaries of that historical
event.
Her new book, "Interviews with Icons,
Flashing On The Sixties "
was released February 2000 by Lumen Press and has received sterling
reviews.

Flashing
on the Sixties
A Tribal Document
(DVD)
by Lisa Law
Malcolm MacKinnon High Times,
1994
It's about time we stop talking about the '60s
as if the decade were the dawn of cremation.
I think we've all just about heard enough reverential, fluttery homage
to a time that continues to recreate itself in our nation's imagination.
That's why Flashing On The Sixties (Flashback Productions; Lisa Law,
dir.) a documentary by Lisa Law,is such a welcome shot of fresh air.
Law, a full-time activist whose photos have been published widely,
was there and she had the footage to prove it.
From Haight Ashbury to the commune scene, Law recorded the events
around her with a clear eye.
Interweaving previously unreleased eight-millimeter footage of Woodstock
and
the celebrations with black and white stills from her own considerable
stock,
Law sheds some knowing light on a puzzling period in recent American
history.
