"Robert
Altman's photography was instrumental in portraying the look and
feeling and vitality of the Sixties."
Jann
Wenner, Editor and Publisher, Rolling Stone Magazine "
Mr.
Altman is probably unapproachable in photography as a perfect
blend of photojournalist and star-shooter. His access to the moments
and individuals which created the cultural shift in the 60s put
him in the unique place of being the ONLY person who could have
taken many of the pictures he took. In effect, this made him one
of the movers and shakers of that era, by virtue of his bringing
these images to our eyes and our minds. Without this imagery,
many of the heroes of that generation may not have been as deified
as they became.
His
images have impacted our minds and memories. In addition to many
images of the rock stars he caught in the bloom of their youth,
there are scads of photos of the 60s and the movers and shakers
who helped make what happened happen.
In
his site he documents not only his prolific photographic output,
but his own life - then and now - and there really is no better
online document of that era and it's transformation into this
one. There's no reason this site shouldn't be a mecca." -=Fierce

Altman
has been professional photographer since 1967- beginning as a
photojournalist which included a stint as Rolling Stone Magazine's
chief staff photographer For several decades he headed his own
commercial studio in San Francisco.
"I realized long ago that my 'raison d'Ětre' was to chronicle
and publish photos depicting the life and times that the Sixties
inspired. It was 'meant to be' and photojournalism became my vocation,
really my calling... whether I was hired to do so or not. This
drive consumed my life.
We had a wonderful, extended adolescence. It's almost as if our
parents said,
"OK- go out and have a good time but just be back by 1974."
His current traveling exhibit is entitled "'Portrait of an Era-
Robert Altman's Sixties." It drew over 115,00 during it's recent
run in Hot Springs and was succeeded by "White House Photographs:
The Clinton Years."
His clients include Newsweek; National Geographic; W Magazine;
VH1 ~ MTV; General Motors; Sony Music; 'Almost Famous' - SKG;
Fox Network; A & E Network; Grateful Dead Productions ;Colombia
Records; A T & T ; People Magazine ; The New York Times; Rolling
Stone Magazine; San Francisco Chronicle; Simon & Shuster.
